I have a secret. I have hidden it from all but my most trusted friends and family. I am afraid of what people might think if they learn about it. Will my co-workers lose their respect for me, will I be treated like a weirdo when out with my friends, those are the thoughts that go through my mind every time I have the urge to read these particular book series.
I go to the shop at night, always the same shop. The owner (with just a slight smirk) will always put the book into a black pastic bag so that I can go home without the embarrassment of people seeing what I've bought. I never read it in public. I've never ever read it in the LRT even when the journey is long, no matter how bored I was.
But now, I think its time for me to tell the world. The secret is eating me up.
Well, here goes. I read comics. And not just any comics, I read Detective Conan, the manga by Aoyama Gosho. I've been reading it and stashing my collection at the back of my bookshelves for about 5 years now.
Detective Conan, or Case Closed in the US, is about a 16 year old high school student cum private detective named Shinichi Kudo who was shrunk to a 7 year old body after being forced to drink a poison (which was supposed to kill him) by a mysterious organization. To find a cure for the poison, he hid at his girlfriend, Ran Mouri's house whose father, Kogoro Mouri is a private detective too, although a particularly bad one.
Shinichi hid his real identity from everyone, except his parents and his friend, Professor Agasa, to prevent the "Black Organization" from finding out he's still alive, taking up the name of Conan Edogawa (Shinichi is a big fan of Sherlock Holmes written by Arthur "Conan" Doyle) While staying with Ran and Kogoro, he helped solve many cases giving the credit to Kogoro, making Mouri famous.
I really love Conan mainly because I love Sherlock Holmes too. And of course who wouldn't like solving a mystery now and then. Well, my secret's out. How about you? Any secret book passions?
